REPLANTING OF MANGROVES

For every mangrove tree removed during Al Gurm's construction, Aldar has planted two replacement trees. This initiative will not only bring the area back to its original condition but enhance it over time.

As part of their commitment to the Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency, Aldar Properties has signed a two year contract with Al Korm for replanting and maintaining Mangrove Trees in Al Gurm. Al Korm has extensive experience with Mangroves in the UAE. Al Korm and Aldar are considering a Mangrove Nursery on Al Gurm.

BAN ON FERTILISERS AND PESTICIDES

Written into the Community Rules for Al Gurm is a ban on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Due to the sensitivity of the natural environment at Al Gurm, chemical fertilizers are strictly prohibited and any products used for the control of pests and diseases must be biodegradable. Only non-toxic, approved organic materials can be used.

CLEANING PRODUCTS

Another Community Rule, which form part of the Master Community Declaration for Al Gurm, is that residents must take due care to ensure all cleaning products are of a biodegradable nature. Some cleaning products including limestone cleaners are available for sale within the Community Management centre.

DISCHARGING OF WASTE INTO THE WATERWAYS

Al Gurm takes a strict stance when it comes to any residents or contractors discharging any paint, sanding debris, hydrocarbons or chemicals into the waterways in and around Al Gurm. This offence is a violation of federal and/or emirate law and violators can be prosecuted criminally and civilly.

BAN ON WATER SPORTS

To protect the marine life at Al Gurm, fishing, cleaning of fish, swimming, diving, SCUBA diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kite-sailing and other watersports are prohibited within the Al Gurm Waterways and the Musaffah channel adjacent to Al Gurm.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Averda, the company that is responsible for the cleaning and waste management at Al Gurm, use environmentally friendly electric cars and boats when carrying out all their cleaning and waste management duties at the community.

EDUCATION AND PROTECTION

Numerous species of marine life and bird life are constantly spotted and photographed at Al Gurm. The Community Management team at Aldar have organised a competition to encourage resident's children to identify and photograph different species of wildlife at Al Gurm. The winning entry receives a year's Family Access Pass for Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
